Face to Face Classroom Rules and Procedures (Subject to change, SEE BELOW For online classroom rules):
-If
you quit attending class for any reason, you must officially withdraw
from the class before the cutoff. To do so, see the registration office. If you
officially withdraw you will see a W on your transcript which will not
affect your GPA negatively. However, if you fail to properly withdraw
from class you will receive an F for the class.
-Cellular
Phones/Pagers: Absolutely no cell phone or pager use is allowed in the
classroom. If you are expecting an important call keep your phone
turned off and then check your voicemail during break outside of the
classroom.
-Food and Drinks are allowed in my F building
classroom. But please be very careful to not spill on the carpet or
keyboard. Also, keep crumbs away from the keyboard. In my D building
classroom food is not allowed and drink is only allowed in sealable
containers.
-Since computer classes involve “hands on”
learning, I will normally demonstrate the day’s new concepts in the
first portion of the class period, which will allow you the opportunity
to work on assignments and projects for the last portion. However, this
may change based on the class being taught, and the difficulty of the
concepts being covered.
-Breaks can be taken as needed
just be sure to leave and enter quietly to not disrupt the rest of the class.
-While I am presenting the day’s concepts to the class each student should listen and be attentive.
-Please
pick a computer within the first few days of class and stay at that
location for the remainder of the class. This will help us all remember
each other’s names a little easier if we consistently stay in the same
seat.
-Attendance: Daily I will pass around an attendance
sheet. Please sign next to your name. Do not attempt to sign in missing
classmates, as I will be checking the sheet for accuracy. I will use
these sheets to calculate attendance grades. Each day you will receive
ten attendance points for attending the class and being on time. If you
are tardy past 10 minutes please see the instructor after lecture to sign in and
receive 5 attendance point. If you do not come to class or do not see
the instructor to sign in for your tardiness you will receive zero
points for the day. Attendance is a large portion of your final grade.
Please see your class syllabi for the exact percentage. There are no
excuses or make-up for missed attendance points.
-Participation:
I highly encourage students that have questions while working on their
assignments to consult with a peer; this helps both students to
increase their learning on the subject matter. Feel free to ask me
questions during presentation or as you are working on an assignment.
-Group
Projects: If a group project is assigned please keep in mind that your
grade is based on the total “team effort”. Each of you will receive the
same grade. However, if there are participation problems from certain
members I reserve the right to pass out a “Group Project Peer
Evaluation Form” and will then weigh the grades according to individual
participation on the project.
-Tests/Quizzes: It is expected that you be on time and present for tests. Absences from quizzes/tests for any reason
including sickness will result in a loss of 10% of the total available
points. See the instructor the day you come back for a makeup
quiz/test. Makeup quizzes/tests can only be taken the day you come back
and no later. This rule is in effect because it is not fair to the
students that were at the quiz or test if someone else has some excuse
and ends up getting extra days to study. Please note: There are no
makeups for the final test, since final class grades have to be
submitted. You must take the final test on the day noted or you will
receive a zero.
-Late Assignments/Projects: Assignments
are due at the beginning of class on the date specified per the class
calendar, unless otherwise noted by the instructor. It is highly
recommended that you turn in all assignments on time. Late assignments
are marked off 25% per day. Any assignment turned in after the
instructor has collected them is considered a minimum of one day late.
If you are sick or have special circumstances please see the instructor
for accommodations.
-Sick – I ask that you email or leave
me a voicemail so I can stay informed of your situation. Email is my
preferred method of communication since I am usually in the classroom
and rarely next to my phone. To be considered sick and therefore not be
marked late on assignments you will need to supply the instructor with
a doctor’s note on medical stationary stating that your condition made
it very difficult for you to complete assignments when due. Also it
should state the dates you were or will be unable to attend class.
Please see me and we will work out a “catch up” plan and agree on new
dates for completion of the missing assignments. Please note that
sickness excuses can only be used for late assignments, any late quiz
or test will automatically lose 10% of the total available points.
-Special
Circumstances: Please see me or call me if MAJOR special circumstances
have arisen such as death in the family, being involved in a car
accident, or court dates etc. I will work with you for your late
assignments because of a major special circumstances and we can arrange
things so that you aren't marked off late for assignments. Please not
that special circumstance excuses can only be used for late
assignments, any late quiz or test will automatically lose 10% of the
total available points.
-Contesting
questions: If you don't agree with a test, quiz, or homework answer,
you may contest the question. To do this you will need to type a
150-350 word, logical argument and hand it in to your instructor before
the end of the class period in which you initially view your graded quiz, test
or homework. To be considered, your argument must include page numbers
and quotes from the class textbook supporting your point. Submitting
the paper above does not guarantee a reversal of the original score.
All reversals are at the sole discretion of the instructor.
-Grade
Status: All grades are stored in the Angel Classroom, don't forget to check your grade often.
-Working
Ahead: Please feel free to work ahead on assignments or read sections
in the assigned chapter that are ahead of that days presentation.
However, I ask that you not ask questions of the instructor regarding
sections that haven’t been presented to the class yet.
-Anti-Virus
software: If you work on assignments at home and will be electronically
bringing them to the classrooms or to the instructor it is highly
recommended that you purchase or download good free anti-virus software such as the
latest AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton Antivirus or McAfee VirusScan for your home PC.
-Classroom
conduct: I ask when the day’s concepts are being presented that you not
talk to your neighbor and instead raise your hand if you have a
question for the instructor. We are all adults and are in class to
learn the subject at hand; it is asked that you employ common
courtesies towards fellow classmates and the instructor. Please to not
distract the class by being overly loud, obnoxious or combative towards
other students or the instructor. This type of behavior is not
acceptable and will not be tolerated for the good of the entire class.
If this type of behavior occurs the student will be asked to cease, if
the student continues they will be dismissed from class and will
immediately face formal disciplinary actions as laid out in the BTC
Student Code of Conduct.
-Cheating/Plagiarism: Cheating or
plagiarism in any form is not acceptable under any circumstances. If a
student if found to have cheated on a test, quiz, copied another
students assignment, or to have plagiarized in any form the student
will receive an immediate F in the class and will be reported to the
appropriate disciplinary BTC administrator and/or committee.
-Instructor
Availability: I’m available for questions during your class. Outside of class feel free to email me and I will respond as soon as possible.
Online Classroom Rules and Procedures (Subject to change):

If you officially withdraw you will see a W on your transcript which will not affect your GPA negatively. However, if you fail to properly withdraw from class you will receive an F for the class.
-You are expected to be cordial and polite to your fellow students and instructor, no "flaming" allowed.
-You are expected to meet the deadlines and complete the coursework and tests by the due dates, online classes require plenty of self motivation an prioritization.
-My computer quit working is not a valid excuse for late assignments, if your computer acts up you may go to the BTC Library and there you can access MyITLab or LabSims, Angel, the Internet and MS Office.
-Most homework and tests will be completed with MyITLab or LabSim(Depending on the class), therefore an access card is required or you will not be able to pass the class.-Your overall grade will be in Angel, so look there not in MyITLab or LabSim (Note: The grades will not show up automatically in Angel once you complete something, it will show after I have manually entered the scores in for the class so keep checking).-Late assignments loose 25% per day late.
-Late tests loose 10% per day late, with the exception of the final grade. Since final grades must be submitted by the end of the class, if you do not take the final test by the due date you will receive a zero.
